Esej “Mistakes and their impact”

Autor: Matej Potančok

For my essay I choose quote by B. F. Skinner “A failure is not always a mistake, it may simply be the best one can do under the circumstances. The real mistake is to stop trying,”. I think it carries essential knowledge for prosperous life.

I see several aspects of this quote so I would like to analyse few aspects of it. One key aspect of this quote is the idea that failure is not always a mistake. It is often assumed that failure is a result of an error in judgment, lack of effort or simply by not knowing enough. However, there are times when even our best efforts may not lead to success due to circumstances beyond our control. For example, some people cannot write tests. They always prepare for them. They know the subject well enough but for some reason they are unable to write it properly. This may be caused by other distraction, disorder or by the way that questions have been said on the test.

We all do mistakes. And important is that we learn from them. One that do mistake and wont´ learn from it will make it again and again. This reminds me of other famous quote “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” by Winston Churchill. People that are unable to learn form mistakes will repeat them again but so are our leaders. I see many parallels what happened before and what is happening now but I don’t want to make it political so I will just say that time is flat circle, and we are heading on that place that we have been 200 years ago.

On the other hand, I am wondering where we would be without mistakes? Several great inventios are mistakes or have been made by accident. For example, penicillin.

Alexander Fleming was searching for a “wonder drug” that could cure diseases. But one day he noticed that on Petri dish that he didn’t clean properly started to grown mold and it dissolved all bacteria in that Petri dish. And by this accident we got one of the most powerful drug penicillin. Or discoveries such as America was discoverer were mistakes or failures. Columbus sailed to find new way to India, but he landed on one of islands in Caribbean Sea and by doing so he discovered America. Until his death he failed to find way to India. And we could go on with discoveries and inventions such as microwaves ovens, X-rays, black powder, discovering Australia and many more.

The second part of the quote stresses the importance of not giving up in the face of failure. The real mistake, according to the quote, is to stop trying. Failure can be disheartening, and it may seem easier to simply give up and move on. However, giving up does not lead to growth or progress. In fact, it often leads to regret and a sense of unfulfilled potential. Instead, it is crucial to keep trying, to learn from the failures, and to keep moving forward.

Failure can provide important lessons about what works and what doesn’t. When we fail, we are forced to evaluate our approach and identify what went wrong. This process of reflection and analysis can help us to identify areas for improvement and adjust our strategiesaccordingly. For example, if a business venture fails, the entrepreneur can learn valuable lessons about market demand, product development, and financial management that can be applied in future endeavors. Or when physicist can’t solve important equation. Albert Einstein have been struggling with his theory of relativity for 10years. Despite the struggles that he encountered. learned from his previous mistakes and delivered one of the pillars of modern theoretical physics.

Failure can also be a source of motivation. When we experience setbacks or failures, we often feel a sense of disappointment or frustration. However, these negative emotions can also fuel a desire to do better and work harder, to push our boundaries even more and to achieve our goals. For example, if an athlete fails to win a race, the disappointment may motivate them to train harder and try again in the next competition. Or when we try to pass through the test from hardsubject. We may fail on the first attempt, but it can give us energy to prove teachers wrong and get the best mark.

Lastly, embracing failure as a natural part of the learning process can help us to develop a growth mindset. A growth mindset is the belief that our abilities and intelligence can be developedthrough hard work, dedication, and persistence. When we view failure as an opportunity to learn and grow, we are more likely to embrace challenges and take risks. This, in turn, can lead to greater success and fulfilment in our personal and professional lives.

One reason why perseverance is important is that success often requires multiple attempts. Many successful people have experienced failure multiple times before achieving their goals. For example, J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, was rejected by numerous publishers before finding one who was willing to publish her books. If she had given up after the first few rejections, the world would never have been introduced to the magical world of Harry Potter.

Moreover, persevering in the face of failure can help us to develop resilience. Resilience is the ability to recover from setbacks and adversity. When we persevere through failure, we develop the resilience needed to overcome future challenges. This can be a valuable asset in all areas of life, from personal relationships to professional endeavors. Perseverance can also help us to maintain our motivation and sense of purpose. When we give up in the face of failure, we may feel a sense of regret or unfulfilled potential. However, when we persevere, we are more likely to feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, even if we do not achieve our desired outcome immediately. The importance of persevering in the face of failure. By not giving up, we increase our chances of success, develop resilience, and maintain our motivation and sense of purpose. When we persevere through failure, we are more likely to achieve our goals and live a fulfilling life.

In conclusion, the quote “A failure is not always a mistake, it may simply be the best one can do under the circumstances. The real mistake is to stop trying” reminds us that failure is not always a reflection of our abilities or efforts. Rather, it is a natural part of the learning process that can provide important lessons and opportunities for growth. The key is to keep trying, to learn from the failures, and to keep moving forward with perseverance and determination.
